Consignment Auction:

  1. Consignment Agreement: Consignors and the auction house enter into a consignment agreement that outlines the terms of the arrangement. This includes details such as commission rates (the percentage of the sale price retained by the auction house), any applicable fees, and the duration for which the items will be available for auction.

  2. Preview Period: Prior to the auction, there is usually a preview period during which potential buyers can inspect the consigned items. This allows them to assess the condition and quality of the items they may bid on.

  3. Bidding: The auction takes place, either in person, online, or through a combination of both. Bidders place their bids on the items they are interested in, competing with other participants.

  4. Winning Bids: The highest bidder at the conclusion of the auction wins the item.

  5. Payment and Settlement: The winning bidder pays the auction house, which then distributes the proceeds to the consignor after deducting any agreed-upon fees or commissions.

  6. Unsold Items: Depending on the consignment agreement, unsold items may be returned to the consignor, or alternative arrangements may be made.
